James E. Buchanan of Osage, Wy died Monday March 16th, 2009 at the Weston County Health Services. He was born June 20th, 1932, in Odin Illinois, to James Clifford and Glenda Marie Buchanan. The family moved to Wyoming in 1948. Ed graduated from Upton High School in 1950. While in High School he was a member of the football team and set records in pole vaulting. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, during his service he was stationed on the ship USS Philippines Sea, he served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan. He received an honorable discharge in 1956 holding the rank of EMP3. After returning to Wyoming, he married the love of his life, LaVeta Ruth Kirkpatrick in Rapid City, South Dakota on November 21st 1956. In his younger years he worked for a building contractor and was involved in the construction of the Methodist Church in Upton. For many years he worked in the oil field until his retirement.
Ed was a member of the VFW, and served on the Osage Sanitation board for many years. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and mostly spending time with loved ones. He especially enjoyed the times with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife LaVeta of Osage, his two sisters Shirley (Bo) Jones of Holiday TX, Jeannette Ray of Upton, their three children Peggy (Richard) Perkins, Jim (Joyce) Buchanan, Shirley Mitich all of Newcastle, his two grandsons Jimmy Buchanan and Mike Mitich of Newcastle, and four granddaughters Darbi (Jeremy) Dost of Colorado Springs Co, Krystel (Travis) Nolen of Altus OK, Jennifer (Austin Dixon) Buchanan , and Paige Mitich of Newcastle and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James (Buck) Buchanan, his mother, Glenda Vinzant, and his step father Earl Vinzant.
